How do I know if play therapy is right for my child?

If your child is struggling with anxiety, trauma, behavioural challenges, or big emotions they can’t quite express, play therapy can help. It provides a safe space for them to process their feelings, develop coping skills, and build confidence in a way that feels natural to them.

Play therapy differs from everyday play at home because it offers a therapeutic relationship where the child leads the play, and the therapist attunes to their experiences, emotions, and nervous system.

Unlike general play, which is often recreational, play therapy provides a safe space for children to explore and integrate challenging feelings at their own pace. Through co-regulation with the therapist, children learn how to express emotions, develop self-awareness, and build capacity to navigate life’s challenges.

Rooted in connection and nervous system regulation, play therapy is a non-pathologising approach that supports a child’s healing and resilience.
